Dr. Noi Keng KohChair, Citi-NIE Financial Literacy Hub
National Institute of Education, Singapore
Koh Noi Keng is Chair of the Citi-NIE Financial Literacy Hub for Teachers at the National Institute of Education (NIE), an institute of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. She has led financial literacy programmes and research in schools since the Hub’s launch in 2007 with a grant from the Citi Foundation. After 15 years' experience as a teacher, a head of department, a vice principal and a Ministry of Education Senior Education Officer, Dr Koh joined NIE/NTU to coordinate and lead postgraduate courses that prepare teachers to instruct economics, elements of business skills, and accounting in Singapore schools. She has spearheaded professional development courses, mentorship programmes and research, and organised events, to create awareness and empower teachers to promote financial literacy to students in schools. To date, the Hub has trained more than 8,000 teachers in personal finance education and pedagogy skills and organised outreach programmes for more than 300,000 students, parents and teachers from more than 290 schools in Singapore. This has resulted in a quantum leap in the number of schools in Singapore implementing financial literacy programmes.
